The Nintendo Switch is the only console that doesn't do RT. This 30 gen (sadly not confirmed), or perhaps next 40 gen (likely), GTX actually may go extinct entirely and all Nvidia cards will support ray tracing so be RTX only. There is no 70s and 80s tier because GTX is already being phased out. And those variant cards only come in 50s and 60s tiers. The only GTX successors to the 10 gen is the 16 gen that is a GTX variant of the RTX 20 gen. Up coming consoles got ray tracing support, they are AMD APUs, AMD GPUs will follow very soon. The 50 gen RTX cards could do that in ~4 years for AAA games. I can't find that twitter post now, but it's not too far off to my opinion. Graphics Card AvailabilityĪccording to someone at Nvidia ~3 years ago, Every AAA game would require ray tracing in ~5 years. Bevy is left behind here again by far, not even having RT. Unity may actually loose its indie crown to UE5. This speeds up the asset creation workflow a lot for indies and AAA alike. It may be not needed to make low res models for every high res model anymore. But regarding the programming hardships of UE4, they may all disappear with UE5. Some indie devs are willing to put up with the UE4 engine that already got ray tracing. And there is indoor and outdoor transitions.Īlso, there is the Unreal Engine 5. Indie games like Stormworks, a game that is low poly, solid color style, and very dynamic in its nature (construction of vehicles), could make excellent use of the perfect soft shadows and GI. Indie devs could make a Wolfenstein 3D clone that doesn't look like ass. Think of Minecraft RTX(lower than low poly, lower than low texture res) and Quake 2 RTX(low poly). The power of such a renderer compensates for the lack of details given by high res textures and models. And that with no additional effort on the part of the indie dev. Ray tracing is absolutely fantastic for indie games that don't use AAA grade assets.
Nobody will make a AAA game with this engine any time soon, but neither with the Unity engine that but, got some support for ray tracing, too, already. Rasterization is on its way out all together. I'm not under the impression that ray tracing is meant to co-exist with rasterization for long, not even in indie games. Perhaps, with ray tracing which is all the rage in gaming these days, you could draw more attention to this engine to grow the community a bit faster, too!? Death of Rasterization Not Only a Gain for AAA Games But by the time the engine itself is usable, and anybody uses it for making a commercial game, ray tracing is going to be far more wide spread. I have no knowledge of how well they perform or play.I figure it's not a priority. There was a 2013 remake of Shadow Warrior and its sequel, both of which are available on consoles. The final area portal-puzzles killed that game for me. That, combined with most enemies falling into "big animated suit of armor" archetypes and later levels making heavy use of fighting dudes on narrow bridges over bottomless pits, sucked all the fun out of the game. Gameplay-wise, though, it veers far too close the "always be backpedaling" gameplay of Serious Sam for my interests. That game looks awesome and I'd recommend giving it a shot at a discount price if only to just sit back and look at it.
I should amend my thoughts on Amid Evil a bit. I did enjoy it, I just lost interest both times I played it and never finished it.
If you're a big fan of Build Engine game, you'll probably enjoy it a lot. Ion Fury has been ported to Xbox One/PS4/Switch. It's very much a game geared towards mouse and keyboard with some of the crazy shit the last third of the game does. I don't think its system requirements are very high and technically it works with a controller out of the box, but not all that well. I don't think you're going to get Prodeus's specific look and feel out of anything else, though.ĮDIT: If it must be on Xbox, then Dusk isn't available there. Out of all the throwback shooters we've had, Dusk is easily the best of the lot. The game you're really looking for, though, is Dusk. People really like Amid Evil, though I personally didn't.
